I think it fizzled out because Rick Berman lost his enthusiasm for it. Also UPN isn’t known for it’s rocket scientist demographic. They cancelled Star Trek: Enterprise but kept America’s Next Top Model. People that typically watch UPN don’t have the grey matter for anything intelligent. They should have put it on a different network.

True,i remember Trek book where Kirk replaced Pike as Captain of the Enterprise+Menagerie one of my fave eps.The Cage was a good pilot.Hope they do respect lore but are not hindered by it.

I think you mistaking ‘intelligence’ for ‘techno babble’, which there is plenty of. I think what thanks51 is trying to get at is that every so often Star Trek tries to challenge people rather than simply pacify them.

I’m worried that they’ve just used Star Trek to create a flashy action film. The fragments of story revealed don’t look any better than the ‘ST – Generations’ plot. Hope I’m mistaken, but I simply don’t like what is implied in these trailers. Is that Bruce Greenwood in the trailer?

The new movie looks like a brainless action movie. Wait.. all action movies are pretty brainless. JJ Abrams has ruined Star Trek. He has turned it from something cerebral and thought provoking to something designed for the MTV generation. There’s too much fighting in this movie already. Chris Pine just isn’t cheesy enough to play Kirk. He doesn’t even pause his lines awkwardly like the real Kirk would! It’s sad knowing that new viewers will think that this is what Star Trek is about. BOO!

Partially agree there – at least on the action-bit. Though I wouldn’t say he ruined all of Star Trek since he only directs the 11th movie of a franchise that consists of over 700 TV-episodes, 10 movies and countless novels, comic books, etc. It’s just a small portion and no one is to say that this really is all that bad – maybe they just pick the not-so-good scenes for the trailers. : D

Saw the movie this weekend and whoever says that this is another Nemesis needs sortin out. This was film making genius and has given the star trek franchise exactly what it needed. Its back, and its so much better.

The character relationships and interaction in the movie are superb.The action is good, but it’s hard to see what’s happening because of all the camera movement.The plot is nothing more than a skeleton to justify the re-imagining.
